Today has been one of those strange days when you realize if you lived in the 1800s, you'd be dead.
I got a bug bite on Friday in the crease of my elbow. It got terribly red, itchy, and inflamed, which is nothing unusual for me (I have terrible reactions to bites). This morning, I noticed a red streak running up my arm toward my heart and knew I was in trouble.
I went to the doc and she said it was a pretty serious infection that was now in my bloodstream heading for my lymph nodes and heart. She wanted to give me an antibiotic shot immediately because this can be life threatening. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to the base antibiotic (ceclore) in the shot, so I'm on a heavy-duty oral antibiotic for three times a day for a week. The doc was pretty concerned she couldn't give me the shot because it is the recommended way to stop the progress of the infection. If this streak keeps creeping up my arm or if I get a fever, I have to get immediate medical attention. Hopefully the super antibiotic works right away and I'll be fine!
Thank goodness for modern medicine!

Um...scary!! Keep us posted on if you recover from this crazy bug bite! Haha..I guess that sounds kind of bad, like I'm expecting you to NOT recover. Maybe it would just be better to say GOOD LUCK with the recovery, and thank goodness for modern day medicine!
Whoa! What a blessing it is to even have the oral antibiotic option! Get well soon!!!!!!
oh my goodness. that is crazy. i hope and pray that the antibiotic will work.
Em, this has me sick! I will be praying for you. What kind of a bug was it? Any clue? I hope you get better a.s.a.p!! SCARY
Lo
oh my! I'm so glad you went to the doctor!
Scary! Hope you are feeling all better!
So what exactly is it? What took a chomp out of your arm?
Scary! I hope you are ok friend & thank goodness for quick medical intervention!
Give Hope a call she can commiserate with you. She was allergic to bee stings when she was young. You have to be careful. Know your body.
I'm glad you have an education in Health and were smart enough not to take this lightly.

Oh man! I know what you mean, though. I find myself in situations all the time and I think, "What if this was the 1800s? I'd totally be a goner!" Well, or lame, or blind, or...maybe in your case limbless?
I hope it all works out and goes away quickly!
Please update soon so we know you're doing all right! Good luck!
Emiline, I can't believe you had streaks. That would be way scary! So glad they didn't have to amputate because of a bug bite. I've often thought about the modern medicine thing too. LIke how I was recently sliced open and a small person was removed from my uterus. I'm pretty sure the native americans didn't do that.
I'm so glad you're still alive!
Fun to see your blog, Emily! I'm glad you're fine after that crazy bug bite, too.
